Volunteers are asked to call 813-865-4820 and schedule their time at least one week in advance.

As a volunteer, you will work as a server and as a host companion. Our goal is to have one server and one host companion per table. The Captain will be responsible for delegating assignments to the volunteers.

Please greet the guests warmly and learn each person's name. You will serve them a meal that consists of a beverage, appetizer, main course and dessert.

During the meal, casually visit with your guests. Discuss items of interest such as current events, sports, news and whatnot. We ask our servers and table companions to be loving, encouraging, and supportive to each guest. But please, do not be overly inquisitive or question them as to how they have arrived at their current stage in life.

Once the guests have left the table after completing their meals, please reset the table and prepare for more guests.

If you need assistance at any time, please do not hesitate to ask for help. If, by chance, during your volunteer shift you experience any problems, immediately report the issue to the Captain.

We respect the boundaries of each guest and their ways of relating. Understand that we are not professional counselors. Only if they request referrals for assistance should they be provided.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of the people we serve. While the needs of the homeless and hungry may be great, so is our shared commitment to help.

Remember NEVER give money, rides or gifts to the homeless guests.
